National Dog Bite Prevention Month
Did you know that May is National Dog Bite Prevention Month? Half of all children are bitten by a dog by the time they are 12 years old. Dog bites are considered to be a serious public health problem by the American Veterinary Medical Association and by the Canada Safety Council. Most bites are by the family dog or other dog known to the child and can be prevented through education.

Louise is now a licensed Doggone Safe and Be a Tree presenter. This program was designed to educate school children on safety around dogs. It focuses on reading a dog's body language, and what to do if approached by a strange dog. For more information on this program visit www.doggonesafe.com.

Meet-up Group
Meetup.com is a great way to find people who share common interests and actually meet them in person at planned events. Louise has started a Fort Collins Dog Training Meet Up group. The group had it's first meeting last Thursday at Rolland Moore Park. We practiced loose leash walking of our dogs. It's a great opportunity to socialize your dog in a controlled manner. Only positive training methods are allowed. No prong collars or choke chains are permitted. We will be meeting at various locations around Fort Collins — Old Town, local parks, maybe some dog friendly businesses, to practice the skills we want our dogs to demonstrate. Louise will provide training tips at the meetings. If this interests you, go to www.meetup.com and search on Dog Training. Sign up for the Fort Collins Dog Training Meet Up Group at

You'll be informed via email when our next meeting will be. It's fun and it's free so come meet up with us!!
